azulejo
~ limpiando el smart city
azulejo is a time-based media piece centered on the invisible cleaning routine of a Latina worker as she does her night shift through an imagined smart city. By going through her work routine, we get a sense of the repetitive, endless, solitary, and overwhelming quality to maintenance work. However, while maintenance is exhausting, our protagonist exits our screens with a sense of satisfaction.
The video opens with Chapter I. Omaira––a tribute to my late grandmother.
Video was constructed using Processing (to create the tiled background) & my own digital collage works for the cityscapes.
Exhibited during the 2020 Abierto Mexicano de Diseño.
